Doubts Over Herbal Medicines

SCIENTISTS today cast doubt on the effectiveness of individually- tailored herbal medicines.
The treatments used in Chinese, Ayurvedic and Western herbal medicine have become increasingly popular over the past 20 years.
But a study published in the Postgraduate Medical Journal said there was no convincing evidence that the treatments work.
Dr Peter Canter said the research team had found over 1,300 published articles on the subject but only three were clinical trials which analysed the effectiveness.
