MONTREAL – Former prime minister Jean Chretien continues to do well after his heart surgery.
Montreal Heart Institute spokeswoman Doris Prince said Friday that Chretien’s recovery is proceeding as expected. The 73-year-old Chretien underwent emergency bypass surgery earlier this week.
He entered hospital after saying he didn’t feel well enough to go to Vancouver and deliver a speech.
Chretien had told a cardiologist with whom he was golfing at the beginning of the week about his symptoms and had the 78-minute operation on Wednesday, a day after he entered the hospital.
The coronary blockage was repaired before it could damage his heart.
