Doctors' Center Hospital First In Puerto Rico To Implement MEDHOST Emergency Department Information System

Posted on: Monday, 8 October 2007, 12:00 CDT

MEDHOST, provider of the leading Emergency Department Information System (EDIS), today announced that Doctors' Center Hospital in Manati, Puerto Rico, will be the first facility in Puerto Rico to implement MEDHOST in an effort to improve patient care and streamline procedures. Doctors' Center Hospital will use Patient Tracking and Order Entry to reduce patient wait times, increase patient safety and improve overall workflow in the emergency department (ED). With MEDHOST, clinicians can spend more time with their patients.

"We are proud to pioneer the use of MEDHOST in Puerto Rico to enhance successful patient outcomes, and we intend to implement MEDHOST in our hospitals in Bayamon and Santurce," said Dr. Carlos Blanco Ramos, president of the board of directors at Doctors' Center Hospital. "MEDHOST's dedication to providing hands-on training and their attentive Customer service has been the platform for positive clinician acceptance. Implementing MEDHOST's innovative technology allows us to better serve our patients, whose lives depend on receiving the best emergency care in the most dynamic of all healthcare environments."

By implementing MEDHOST, Doctors' Center Hospital also will increase efficiency across other hospital departments, which reduces risk, increases staff production and provides the means to monitor patient processes in real time. MEDHOST easily interfaces with Doctors' existing hospital information system (HIS), Infomedika, and with ancillary departments, including lab and radiology, which reduces the amount of time spent waiting for patient results.

"We are pleased that Doctors' Center Hospital chose MEDHOST as a means for improving patient care and increasing safety in their ED," said Craig Herrod, president and CEO of MEDHOST. "Their reputation in the medical community and their dedication to setting a standard for other hospitals in Puerto Rico is exemplary and admirable. MEDHOST looks forward to working with Doctors' Center Hospital to make them an even greater success."

MEDHOST currently serves more than 130 facilities, including Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston, the Lifespan Health System of Rhode Island, and the Baylor Health Care System in Texas. MEDHOST is the preferred EDIS provider of VHA Inc., a national cooperative serving more than 2,400 not-for-profit healthcare organizations. MEDHOST easily integrates with leading healthcare information systems, including MEDITECH, Cerner, Siemens and McKesson.
