BRIEF: Woman Missing From Care Center Found Safe
By The Gazette, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Oct. 12–A mentally ill woman who walked away from a residential care home earlier this week was found safe this morning in a motel.
Colorado Springs Police responding to a pre-dawn call from a motel on North Chestnut Street found Cindy Shroyer, 44.
She had been missing since Wednesday from Harrison House Care Center on the southeast side.
Officials said she had packed her belongings and left sometime Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
Shroyer has Huntington’s disease, a genetic illness that impairs body movements, speech and mental ability. She had been placed at Harrison House after her release Oct. 2 from the state hospital in Pueblo.
Police said Shroyer was unharmed and was taken to Penrose Hospital for evaluation.
