PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The American College of Gastroenterology and its Institute for Clinical Research & Education today announced a commitment of $1 million over four years by Salix Pharmaceuticals, Inc. The Salix pledge is an important milestone in the ACG’s Advancing Excellence campaign to provide long-term support for the Institute’s mission of innovative clinical research, patient education and gastroenterology practice excellence.

“This generous gift from one of our specialty’s innovative newcomers boosts an impressive fundraising effort that so far has resulted in more than $16 million to support clinical research, as well as patient and physician education. The College is proud of the unprecedented support for the Institute and its mission. We recognize the generosity and commitment of Salix’s leadership, including Carolyn Logan, President and CEO,” said ACG President Dr. David A. Johnson.

From the campaign’s beginning in 2002, the ACG Institute set an ambitious goal. From a position of burgeoning financial strength, the Institute has been able to achieve a significant boost in its support for patient-oriented research and to expand its educational programming.
