Picis, the leading provider of high-acuity care information systems, today announced the release of CareSuite™ Extelligence® Anesthesia version 3.0, a turnkey business intelligence (BI) solution designed specifically for analyzing and managing the business performance and clinical quality indicators of the anesthesia care environment. This software seamlessly integrates with CareSuite Anesthesia Manager, Picis’ anesthesia information system, allowing clinicians and business managers to directly access and analyze anesthesia information from automatically recorded data. Picis is scheduled to demonstrate Extelligence Anesthesia at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) 2007 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, October 13-17 (Picis booth #1728).

Extelligence Anesthesia version 3.0 is a Web-based tool, simplifying deployment to end users across the hospital. Within the Extelligence Anesthesia version 3.0 best practice report library, which includes 22 reports across five categories, are new fluid and blood reports, enabling the anesthesia team to analyze throughput, efficiency and clinical quality indicators.

Using data collected from patient cases, Extelligence Anesthesia version 3.0 users are empowered with actionable clinical information regarding complications, best practices, medications and quality assurance indicators. Clinicians and quality assurance professionals can identify incidents and trends in patient care, such as higher temperatures, difficult intubations and nausea/vomiting. In addition to clinical data, the software enables healthcare executives and business managers to track productivity and performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.

“Costs and risks of anesthesia care are among the highest in the hospital. Quick access to information on performance and procedures can prevent waste, increase billing and help improve patient care,” said Carlos Nunez, M.D., chief physician executive of Picis, and a practicing anesthesiologist and intensivist. “Extelligence Anesthesia transforms disjointed data into meaningful, digestible information and reports without the need for extensive IT involvement.”

Extelligence Anesthesia 3.0 features include:

Low total cost of ownership — Hospitals can acquire and leverage business intelligence at a low total cost of ownership by relying on a leading, industry-standard business intelligence tool and platform delivered through a thin browser client, packaged with anesthesia care analysis and productivity reports.

Out-of-the-box integration — Facilities can get more from what they already have by leveraging out-of-the-box integration with Anesthesia Manager and a short implementation cycle.

Enhanced best practice report library — Executives can empower end users to do reporting and analysis with an expanded best practice report library that now includes fluid and blood reports, easy-to-use analysis tools and Microsoft ® Office integration. It can significantly reduce the time spent creating and maintaining reports by enabling the anesthesia business manager and others to become self-sufficient.
