QBE Presents Doctors Without Borders With $100,000 Grant
NEW YORK, Dec. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — The QBE Divisional Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to Doctors Without Borders.
According to QBE President and Chief Executive Officer John Rumpler, Doctors Without Borders provides services that fit well with the foundation mission. The foundation is dedicated to supporting vocational opportunities around the world through organizations that help people live more independently, successfully and productively.
“Access to medical care is essential for people to be able to support themselves and their families,” Rumpler said. “As an insurance company, we are dedicated to helping rebuild lives after disasters strike, so we are pleased to assist this extraordinary organization.”
Also known as Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), Doctors Without Borders delivers independent, impartial assistance in more than 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence, natural disasters or other causes. The foundation grant will support two programs. One is the Emergency Relief Fund, which provides direct medical care to victims of underreported and unexpected crises. The other is the Campaign for Access to Essential Medicines, which promotes access to life-saving medicines and development of new ones.
“QBE’s generous grant will allow MSF to continue to respond to unanticipated and neglected emergencies through life-saving medical humanitarian relief programs,” said Director of Development Jennifer Tierney. “The grant will also aid our advocacy efforts to remove the barriers that block access to quality health care for those who benefit from our programs.”
Doctors Without Borders is one of 10 charities receiving grants from QBE in 2011. More than 200 charities providing vocational services in QBE’s local communities were nominated and voted on by employees in 143 offices across the country.
