Las Vegas Therapist Leading the Charge Against Pornography and Masturbation Addiction Launches a New Defense at OvercomePornography.com

January 8, 2012

New website, http://www.OvercomePornography.com, designed by therapist Ryan Wydner, helps people struggling with the twin addictions to pornography and masturbation without the expense of multiple one-on-one therapeutic sessions.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) January 07, 2012

When therapist Ryan Wydner first started his Las Vegas-based practice, he was surprised by the number of patients wanting to know how to stop masturbating. But maybe he shouldn´t have been.

According to a recent study shown on “Real Family, Real Answers”, about 10 percent of all Americans admit to being addicted to pornography and/or masturbation. This startling statistic has been attributed to exponential growth of pornography available on the internet.

Today, pornography is big business. With annual revenues of more than $97 billion, it´s bigger than Microsoft, Google, Amazon and eBay combined, reports familysafemedia.com here: http://familysafemedia.com/pornography_statistics.html#anchor1. So it is shouldn´t be surprising that the negative aspects of this industry are rapidly making their way into mainstream American society.

With more than 4.2 million porn websites, porn is everywhere on the web, representing about 12 percent of the entire internet. Viewers can now view explicit porn in the privacy of their home or anywhere they go with a mobile electronic device. And every day there are news stories about people being fired for looking at porn in the workplace.

Each year, more and more people come to Ryan wanting to know how to stop watching porn. His reputation and practice has grown so large that some patients spend thousands of dollars to fly across the country just to consult with him. Because Ryan´s methods have proven successful with so many patients — including hundreds of patients in the Las Vegas area alone — his client base has exploded in recent years.

Ryan´s practice has grown so large that the waiting list for his $100/session appointments is now months long.

That´s when Ryan started thinking about designing a website where porn addicts could get immediate, professional help without having to struggle with their dangerous addictions while waiting months for an appointment. The result was overcomepornography.com.

Ryan said the irony of making his expertise and experience available via the internet –the same medium that has helped precipitate these problems in the first place — has not escaped him. But he found it was the best way to reach the largest number of people most effectively.

“This addiction is no respecter of persons,” Ryan said, adding that his patients come from every walk of life. In fact, 28 percent of visitors to pornography websites are women, according to familysafemedia.com.

“Brain studies have shown that“¦ it´s harder to quit porn than crystal meth or crack,” Ryan said.

Mary Anne Layden, co-director of the Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Cognitive Therapy, agrees. In her testimony before the Senate Commerce Committee´s Science, Technology and Space Subcommittee, she called porn the “most concerning thing to psychological health that I know of existing today.”

Until now, standard treatments have been woefully inadequate, according to Ryan. Despite good intentions, the theoretical framework for dealing with these issues has been grounded in a symptoms-based approach, rather than dealing with the root of the problem.

What´s more, many porn addicts can be denied access to the treatment they desperately need because addiction to porn has not yet officially been recognized as a disorder in the authoritative Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM), published by the American Psychiatric Association, although addiction to masturbation is implicitly included under hyper-sexuality. This has left a serious gap in treatment options available to its sufferers.

Overcomepornography.com offers a proven methodological approach to treating porn and masturbation addicts because it overturns the traditional treatment orthodoxy and opens the field up to a holistic approach to these addictions. The website offers a wealth of resources to fight back against this problem which destroys marriages and ruins families.

Ryan´s system — an online video-based course composed of 23 modules — is available for purchase and immediate use on his website. Each module is the equivalent of one session with Ryan.

In addition to the video course, Ryan also is including his “8 Simple Tips for Overcoming Pornography Addiction for Yourself or Someone You Love” at no additional charge.

Ryan said he hopes people seeking how to quit porn finally find effective treatment for this serious and growing problem. For a free video with more information about how to break the chains of these addictions for yourself or a loved one, visit http://www.overcomepornography.com.
