Oak Brook, IL (PRWEB) April 17, 2012

Building on Advocate Health Care´s recognition as one of the nation´s top health systems, today Thomson Reuters announced that three Advocate hospitals are among the nation´s top 100. Advocate sites represent three of only four Illinois hospitals to receive the 2012 100 Top Hospitals Award. The list includes Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downer´s Grove, Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center on Chicago´s north side and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.

“We are honored to receive this outstanding recognition,” said Jim Skogsbergh, president and CEO, Advocate Health Care. “Our patients and communities deserve the finest care that medicine has to offer. This recognition is a testament to our physicians and associates who are dedicated to delivering the highest quality of clinical care and health outcomes to the patients we serve.”

Good Samaritan Hospital was recognized for a third time as one of the nation´s top large community hospitals. The award comes on the heels of Thomson Reuters also highlighting Good Samaritan as one of the nation´s 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in 2011. Illinois Masonic Medical Center and Christ Medical Center were named as top teaching hospitals. This is the third consecutive year Illinois Masonic made the list. In addition to top rankings in U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals in Chicago and Becker´s Hospital Review, Illinois Masonic also received a 2010 Thomson Reuters´ Everest Award, which recognizes top hospitals for highest performance and the fastest long-term improvement.

The prestigious, 19-year-old 100Top Hospitals study evaluates quantitative data at 2,886 hospitals. Winners are selected based on 10 performance criteria, including patient mortality, medical complications, costs and re-admission rates for certain conditions, such as heart attacks. Thomson Reuters researchers, based in New York, estimated that if all Medicaid inpatients received the same level of care as the winning hospitals, more than 186,000 additional patients would survive each year and annual aggregate expenses would decline by $4.3 billion.
