Miss CA USA 2012 Ditches the Treadmill and Hits The Weight Room

May 13, 2012

IRVINE, Calif., May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — “I want a Victoria’s Secret model body and a little added ‘lift’ to my butt,” requested Natalie Pack, as if she was sitting on Santa’s knee. The current Miss CA USA 2012, Pack, is a Southern CA native, a model since the age of 13, and a student at the University of California, Irvine. Her primary focus is preparing for the upcoming Miss USA Pageant, to be aired June 3rd on NBC.

“We can deliver on that request; she’s in the right place; this is the coolest little gym in America,” says Brad Davidson, Vice President of Research and Development at Stark (located in Irvine, California).

Leading the team on the “Pack” project, Davidson describes the plan in detail.

“Considering her goals,” said Davidson, “we found that she only needs to lose 2-3% body fat. We will help her maintain muscle mass to hit that target, while making sure that she avoids ADDING any muscle.” Davidson smiled, “We’ve decided to take the opposite approach to the other contestants: the lactate pathway over aerobic; a high-protein diet over calorie restriction. Choosing the lactate pathway to fat loss, will allow her to lose body fat quicker, while maintaining muscle mass — exactly what Pack needs to achieve in attaining a soft-toned, athletic, “Victoria-Secret” model look. Compound, high-repetition exercises with short rest periods are on the menu for Natalie to create lots of lactic acid (that burning sensation in your muscles). We’ve alternated lower-body exercises with upper-body exercises and made sure no specific muscle group was under too much stress. This approach prevents muscular hypertrophy (big muscles) from happening. The diet we designed for Natalie follows many of the Paleo Diet principles. We also incorporated a few supplements that really help focus on sculpting lean legs and minimizing the normal anxiety that results from preparing for pageants such as these.”

Pack stated, “Stark was my first choice because I have a lot on the line.” Part gym, part medical offices, Stark caters to elite athletes across the USA, local executives and professionals, fitness models, and one future Miss USA. The environment, though packed with high-profile clients, is more like a fraternity; full of laughter, grunts of pain, constant banter about spray tans, six packs and the latest fifty-year-old to get below 10% body fat. “It’s a fun place to get serious results,” says Pack.

While at work, the interaction between trainer and client is amusing: Miss CA USA (as she’s referred to by everyone greeting her at Stark) approaches her training with the intensity of an athlete — much needed in the pool of competitors for the upcoming pageant. Geoff Samson, the “gentle-giant trainer” assigned to her case, rattles off “pageant-like question after “pageant-like question throughout her workout. He jokingly states, “She needs to be on her toes while under pressure,” (as he applies more pressure). By the end of her workout, she can hardly utter the words, “I’d like to end world hunger.”

As we inch closer to her goals, just two weeks after embarking on her Stark transformation, she’s already dropped 2% body fat! Natalie is calm, sleeping well, and has stated, “My butt is already higher!”
