Haven Brothers: Legacy of the American Diner debuts its KickStarter.com fundraising campaign on Friday, May 25th. A link to the online fundraising campaign will debut, along with the launch of the film’s official website (http://www.havenbrothersmovie.com) on Friday, May 25th.
Haven Brothers, the oldest operating diner on wheels, has been in operation for over 100 years. Established in the birthplace of the American diner–Providence, Rhode Island–Jeff Toste, the film´s director describes Haven Brothers as “a piece of living history, and diner icon.” He said he was drawn to make the film because of the “fascinating stories of the people who have kept the diner going all these years–the owners throughout the past century, and its enthusiastic and unique customers.”
As Toste explains, Haven Brothers Diner remains in its traditional home, a reserved parking spot next to Providence, RI City Hall– seemingly caught in a time warp between brick-walled reminders of Rhode Island´s past and sky-scraping towers of the future. More popular than ever with its“Murder Burger,”craving second-shifters, latenight revelers, and hot dog-loving Providence police officers, it also lures thousands of curious tourists encouraged by the famed diner´s appearances on national television programs such as the “Today Show” and “Man vs. Food.”
Haven Brothers: Legacy of the American Diner is a sixty-minute documentary that explores the survival secrets and almost inexplicable enduring appeal of a Rhode Island cultural icon. An eye-catching blend of on-site interviews with legendary diner devotees; history-probing sit-downs with authorities such as diner expert Richard Gutman; firsthand accounts from some of the state´s most well-known and colorful politicians; and numerous unique, previously unpublished period photographs help convey this humor-driven (and hunger-inducing) story.
Toste hopes to raise enough money to finish the film. “The Kickstarter.com campaign is ℠all or nothing,´ meaning we must meet our goal in one month or get no funding, so we hope people will support our finishing the film,” he said.
