The Oncology Nurse Community To Be Showcased At 2012 ASCO

May 30, 2012

NORWALK, Conn., May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — UBM Medica US announced today that it will be showcasing The Oncology Nurse Community (TheONC.org) at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), being held in Chicago, Illinois, June 1-5, 2012 (Booth #23090). TheONC unites oncology nurses and cancer care teams in a secure environment where they can leverage their collective knowledge, nurture professional growth and emotionally support each other.

“We are very excited to be exhibiting at ASCO,” said Michelle Bragazzi, community editor with TheONC. “Until now, oncology nurses and other members of the cancer support team have not had an outlet to share their unique experiences online so they can connect, refuel and grow within their profession. ASCO is an ideal forum for us to help educate cancer care team members about TheONC and bring them together to share ideas and exchange best practices – ultimately to the benefit of the patients they treat.”

Moderated by oncology nurses and key opinion leaders, TheONC features discussions and commentary covering key issues ranging from symptom management and palliative care to managing ethnic and cultural diversity.

Other resources in the community include:

  • A Library of resources including patient education materials and presentations by community members
  • Clinic Close-Up, where members can view video-based interviews with experts from large group practices, private practices, and academia covering a variety of topics
  • News items relevant to clinical practice
  • An interactive Quiz feature where nurses can test their diagnostic knowledge on a regular basis
  • A Calendar of national and regional events and meetings specific for oncology nurses and cancer support team members

TheONC also hosts a series of webinars on issues pertinent to oncology nurses. Recent webinars have included Managing Side Effects of Targeted Therapies and Compassion Fatigue in Oncology Nurses.

TheONC is supported by an unrestricted grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb.
