Atlanta Plastic Surgery Educates Patients on the Newly Approved Sientra Breast Implants
Plastic surgeons in Atlanta at Swan Center for Plastic Surgery educate patients on the recently announced U. S. Food and Drug Administration approval of a silicone gel-filled breast implant manufactured by Sientra, Inc.
Atlanta Ga (PRWEB) June 05, 2012
On March 9th, 2012, the Food and Drug Administration approved of a new line of silicone gel-filled breast implants from Sientra, Inc. for breast augmentation or reconstruction in women aged 22 or older. Plastic surgeons in Atlanta, GA are currently reviewing these products; the first newly approved line for the consumer market in 20 years and only third to be approved overall.
At Swan Center For Plastic Surgery, Dr. Joseph G. Bauer and his staff have been paying special attention to the development of the line of breast implants. Atlanta women who are exploring their options will have to wait before Dr. Bauer offers this line of new products out of his primary concern for the health and wellness.
“My priorities are patient safety and education,” says Dr. Bauer. “As a responsible practitioner of plastic surgery, I am interested in learning as much information as possible so I can educate my patients on their full range of options.”
Sientra, Inc., based in Santa Barbara, CA, has released a series of both saline and silicone styles. With their silicone line, there are three main options: round/smooth, round/textured, and shaped/textured. All are appropriate for both reconstruction and enhancement for moderate to high profile enhancement. The round/textured option being the only extra high profile option. They also have a saline that has a number of options in pre-filled and inflatable options.
Allergan and Mentor are well-known manufactures of breast implants. Currently, these options are offered at the Swan Center. Dr. Bauer says that “working closely with both manufacturers and as a clinical investigator working closely with the FDA, I have a developed a great wealth of knowledge about what can be achieved with their implants, the options that provide the best results for each patient, and the risk factors that I can convey during the consultation, the surgery, and post-operative recovery.”
The approval of Sientra implants also comes with the requirement that clinical study participants be observed for an additional seven years and that the brand completes a 10-year study of approximate 5,000 women to see if their implant products could be potentially harmful. During this continued clinical study period, The Swan Center will continue to follow the research and determine whether they will carry these products in the future based on these and other clinical outcomes.
As a breast augmentation and reconstruction specialist, Dr. Bauer is both a board-certified plastic surgeon and a council member for Leadership, Excellence, and Development in Breast Augmentation. Committed to excellence and scholarship, as a local surgeon he works to help his patients achieve their goals through carefully planned surgeries and patient education.
