The Perfect Privates — Female Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Dana M. Goldberg Says Vaginal Cosmetic Surgery Is The New Trend In Palm Beach

June 6, 2012

JUPITER, Fla., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Female Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Dana M. Goldberg says Labiaplasty and Vaginal Cosmetic surgeries are the new trend in Palm Beach. While it’s difficult to gauge just how many of these surgeries are being done every year, The American College of Plastic Surgery collected statistics on “vaginal rejuvenation” for two years and found only 800 surgeries in 2005 and just over 1,000 were performed in 2006. Today however, Labiaplasty and Vaginal Cosmetic surgeries have become one of the fastest emerging growth trends in cosmetic surgery procedures.

Dr. Goldberg’s practice is seeing as many as four to six vaginal cosmetic surgeries per week these days. She believes that the enormous rush of vaginal reconstruction patients is due to a number of factors, but says young women sharing their experiences with each other has been a major driving force in her practice.

Dr. Goldberg says that these are very simple surgeries that can usually be done in the office under local anesthesia with oral medication for pain and anxiety if the patient desires. “Most patients actually return to work a day or two later, and the stitches simply dissolve on their own,” says Dr. Goldberg.

The purpose of a labiaplasty is to reshape the external appearance of the genitalia. After childbirth, there is considerable variation in the size of the labia minora. A woman may choose to undergo a labiaplasty for cosmetic reasons and/or to treat discomfort.

Some women may feel self-conscious about the outward appearance of their genitalia. They view their inner labia as abnormally long, which causes them emotional or psychological distress during intimate encounters. These women choose to undergo a labiaplasty to reduce the size of the labia.

In many instances, women with elongated labia may choose to undergo a labiaplasty to relieve symptoms that can arise from increased labia size. Those symptoms include pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse or while wearing tight-fitting clothing as well as interference with exercise and normal daily activities.

“There really is no typical type of patient,” said Dr. Goldberg. She sees just as many women who feel uncomfortable about the way they perceive their appearance, as those seeking to improve sexual pleasure lost after childbirth.

Dr. Goldberg received her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Notre Dame, majoring in Microbiology. She then received her Medical degree from The Ohio State University School of Medicine, where she also went on to complete her residency in plastic surgery. Dr. Goldberg received her board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery with examination scores in the 95(th) percentile. She commands a booming plastic surgery practice with a focus on breast surgery, skin cancer removals, and a wide variety of cosmetic procedures.
