Thomas Meehan Challenges Medicine
MD247 Founder Thomas Meehan challenged the media to bring telemedicine to the attention of both medical professionals and the public.
Tampa Florida (PRWEB) June 08, 2012
MD247 Founder Thomas Meehan opened a question and answer period on Thursday for local media regarding the phenomena of doctors failing to listen to patients.
Thomas Meehan explained on Thursday that it´s a nearly universal experience, a patient talks to a doctor but is unsure if the doctor chose not to hear what the patient was saying. Meehan explained that this isn´t paranoia. The doctor really probably didn´t hear what the patient said. The question is, “why” didn´t the doctor choose to listen during the discussion?
The MD247 team understands that patients as “people” are generally forgotten in the bureaucratic world of “see as many patients as you can,” giving the patient an 18 second window to talk to a doctor before that doctor cuts-off all discussion. Anyone can pretty much grasp the “why” of things when considering the state of the economy in the United States, as well as the outrageous fees government puts on businesses and business owners.
A different aspect of the cash issue comes into play when a patient sits down to talk to a doctor, explains Meehan. “Doctors also have a great deal of difficulty trusting that their patients are smart enough to walk and chew gum at the same time. It´s an unfair assumption.”
Meehan asserts that lack of trust in a patient also finds its foundation in the idea of cash, this time making its focus upon both the social and economic backgrounds of the person taking the time to talk to a doctor. This superiority manifests itself when a doctor, very often an Emergency Room doctor or an Urgent Care Clinic doctor, refuses to take anything beyond a brief background medical history of a patient. The doctor will typically inform the patient that a medical history will only ever be taken from the written medical records of another doctor, clinic or hospital and never from the patient. It´s a brand of self-preservation; again leading back to the expenses associated with a doctor and is meant to insulate the doctor from people looking for “quick fixes.” It isn´t nice, it devalues the person who is ill and it does not bode well for the idea of “respect.”
Meehan went on to challenge the media resources to bring this story to both the public and the medical professionals. He explained that through the application of telemedicine, MD247 has a way to help take that distrust out of the hands of a doctor.
