Dade Medical College Opens New Miami Lakes Campus
MIAMI, June 19, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ — Dade Medical College celebrated the grand opening and ribbon cutting of their new campus in the Town of Miami Lakes on Saturday, June 9, 2012. The grand opening marks the college’s sixth campus in Florida.
To celebrate the grand opening, the college collaborated with Senator Oscar Braynon to award ten full scholarships to deserving members of the immediate community. “There are a few legislators in the Miami-Dade community who represent areas more hard hit by the economic crises our country has been facing over the last few years. That’s why Dade Medical college decided to work hand-in-hand with Senator Braynon to award these scholarships to those we felt were most in need as well as most deserving,” said Dade Medical College President and CEO, Ernesto Perez. “An education should never be out of reach because of financial resources or the limitation of traditional educational tracks or schedules. I look forward to seeing each and every one of these new students on their graduation day,” continued Perez. Senator Braynon was on-hand to present the college with a special plaque and to hand out the scholarship certificates. These scholarships represent an investment of $600,000 in the future of our residents.
Several other legislators were also in attendance to show their support for the grand opening. Among these were Miami Lakes Mayor Michael Pizzi, Miami Lakes Vice-Mayor Cesar Mestre, State Senator Rene Garcia, State Representatives Eddy Gonzalez, Jose Oliva and Luis Garcia and Dade-County Commissioner Esteban Bovo. A representative from US Senator Bill Nelson’s office was also in attendance. Knowing that a project this size is a team effort, college President Perez said, “We are proud to have brought 60 new jobs to the Miami Lakes area and we could not have done that without the support of our legislators.”
As part of the school’s continual commitment to become an integral part of the fabric of the community, the college also presented the American Heart Association with a $125,000 donation and a heartfelt pledge to be the organization’s Heart Society Sponsor for the 45th Annual 2013 Heart Ball. “It is an honor for us to be part of this epic event,” said Perez. “We aspire to continue the legacy the Miami Heart Ball has established within Miami’s medical and philanthropic community and with this donation comes the promise that we will help spread awareness about heart disease, one of this nation’s ‘silent’ killers.” As part of this effort, the college also offers Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR classes at all of their campuses.
Like the college’s other five campuses, this location will be offering Associate of Science and Bachelor’s of Science degree programs in Nursing, Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound, Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography, General Radiologic Technologist, Massage Therapy, Medical Assistant and Medical Billing and Coding. The 40,000 sq. ft. facility boasts large classrooms, a nursing and simulation lab modeled after a hospital setting, an ultrasound and ECHO lab, full X-ray suite, a library and resource center, student lounge and administrative offices. “With this new campus, we can further our reach and offer even more students the opportunity for the outcome-based programs we specialize in,” said CEO Perez.
The new campus will also feature a 5,000 sq. ft. clinic from the college’s sister company, Primary Healthcare Centers. The clinic will offer low-cost medical services for the community as well as serve as a top-notch training ground for the students.
The new campus is currently enrolling students and classes begin every month.
