June 26, 2012

New partnership — the first of its kind in the Northeast — enables promising high school tennis players to achieve a top-flight education while pursuing their passion

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 26, 2012

Dwight School and Centercourt Athletic Club of Chatham (CAC) today announced an innovative partnership, providing promising young tennis players with the opportunity to pursue a challenging college preparatory educational program while engaging in rigorous tennis training. The program, known as the Dwight Centercourt Flex-Educational Partnership, will offer a select number of tennis players from around the world the opportunity to receive a customized education at Dwight while training at The Centercourt Tennis Academy. The program will be open exclusively to 9th graders in the pilot stage, and later expanded to additional grades.

“Dwight´s unique educational philosophy is to ignite the ℠spark of genius´ in every child, and we believe that the first step to teaching students any subject is to find out what they´re truly passionate about,” said Stephen H. Spahn, Chancellor of Dwight School and the longest-serving leader of an independent school in New York City. “With the Dwight Centercourt Flex-Educational Partnership, we will give these talented tennis players the flexibility to pursue a rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) education that will not only prepare them to attend and excel at any college around the world, but also will afford them the freedom to develop into well-rounded, thoughtful human beings. Just as importantly, we will enable them to continue to pursue their dreams.”

CAC is a 15-acre, year-round tennis and fitness complex, which is located 25 miles from the Dwight campus on Central Park West in Manhattan in the exclusive town of Chatham, NJ, providing a safe environment for athletes. It is one of 23 USTA-Certified Regional Training Centers in the United States. CAC has developed one of the nation´s leading junior tennis programs in the area across all age groups and skill sets and in 2012, launched an academy for aspiring tennis players to reach their highest potential. The Center has a dedicated staff of approximately 40 employees and provides comfortable and well-appointed housing options for boarding students.

Through the Dwight Centercourt Flex-Educational Partnership, students will spend the mornings pursuing the International Baccalaureate curriculum, known globally as the gold standard in education and the only program where students are measured against the same universal benchmarks worldwide. Students will then be free in the afternoon to train at CAC.

“Academies, including CAC, typically offer an online educational program. Based upon feedback from our families, CAC would like to offer an educational program to prepare our kids for college and the workforce,” said Clay Bibbee, Managing Partner at CAC. “Our partnership with Dwight will allow us to offer a truly comprehensive training regimen coupled with premier academics through which we will produce top student- athletes.”

Prospective students can access the Dwight application online at https://apply.dwight.edu. Application review and feedback will be expedited for tennis academy students from both CAC and Dwight.
