Coast2Coast Rx Card Reaches Two-Year Anniversary in San Luis Obispo County

July 9, 2012

Discount card is endorsed by County Board of Supervisors and United Way of San Luis Obispo County for its multi-faceted benefits

Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) July 09, 2012

Coast2Coast Rx and the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors announced today that residents have collectively saved more than $1.7 million on prescriptions since the discount card was adopted in July 2010. This milestone achievement, marked by the two-year anniversary of the discount prescription program, highlights the dual benefits of the card: it saves consumers money while generating revenue for important public programs. For each prescription filled, the county receives $1.25–a feature that sets this discount program apart from the rest.

Approved by the Boards of Supervisors in 22 counties throughout California, Coast2Coast Rx is a no-cost, comprehensive program for savings on thousands of prescriptions and additional health services. Everyone is immediately eligible to use the plan as there are no restrictions on age, health status or income. With no membership paperwork required, residents can simply pick up a card from locations around the county or download and print a card from the Coast2Coast website.

Recognizing the potential of the program and its ability to help constituents, United Way of San Luis Obispo County joined the effort to provide Coast2Coast Rx cards to the people it serves. “Our support of the county-endorsed Coast2Coast Rx program addresses two of the United Way´s impact areas–health and income,” said Rick London, the organizations´ chief executive officer. “By taking advantage of the significant discounts on healthcare products and services they need, residents have resources that can allow them to better maintain their family´s health and ease the strain on their household budget.”

With the Coast2Coast Rx card, consumers have benefitted from savings of 10, 25 or even up to 75 percent on their prescriptions, with an average nationwide savings of 55 percent in 2011. For those facing the expense of needed prescriptions without the benefit of insurance, insufficient coverage or high deductibles under a current plan, the card can be a significant cost-saver and in some cases can be used to offset the gap in coverage that Medicare Part D patients sometimes experience. Discounts on certain dental, vision, hearing, lab services, diabetes supplies, and even pet prescriptions and veterinary services are available using the same card through partner programs. More than 59,000 pharmacies nationwide accept the card, including major chains and many independent establishments.

“The Coast2Coast Rx card is an excellent resource for San Luis Obispo residents,” said Health Agency Director Jeff Hamm. “Households that previously had limited options for healthcare can now use the card to access reduced costs on vital services such as diabetes supplies, and vision, hearing and dental care as well as prescriptions.”

To increase awareness and use of the card, Coast2Coast Rx continues to develop outreach efforts to public departments and local nonprofit agencies. Organizations providing social services to underserved populations are encouraged to distribute the card to their constituents as a money-saving resource. Local business owners are also encouraged to make the card available to their employees to help supplement any company-provided healthcare plans or to assist employees who do not qualify for coverage.

“Coast2Coast Rx cards can be an asset to those who lack health insurance options, or whose needs are not met by their current plan,” said Chief Marketing Officer Marty Dettelbach of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., the company that provides the discount prescription card. “The discounts can be significant so we encourage consumers to compare the costs of their families´ prescriptions to see how much they could be saving by using the Coast2Coast Rx card.”

In addition to locations throughout the county carrying the free card, San Luis Obispo County residents can download and print their card at http://www.coast2coastrx.com/slo/ for immediate savings. Follow the program on Facebook and Twitter for updates and general health care news.
