BOSTON, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Christopher’s Haven, a home for kids when cancer hits home, has been named the beneficiary of funds to be raised by the Cape Cod Bay Challenge (CCBC) event for the fifth straight year.
Stand Up Paddlers will make the trek across the Cape Cod Bay on Saturday, August 25(th), 2012, raising money to help fund Christopher’s Haven, apartments and supportive community for families with kids receiving proton beam therapy at Massachusetts General Hospital and other major hospitals in the Boston area.
The Stand Up Paddleboard event, crossing Cape Cod Bay (36 miles) from Plymouth to Wellfleet, will start at 4:00 a.m. from Plymouth and end in Wellfleet around 3:00 p.m.
The Cape Cod Bay Challenge will be filmed from a helicopter tracking the race that has grown from eight paddlers in 2008 to over one hundred participants this year.
“This amazing event, of strength and determination, is organized by our CCBC heroes to raise money that is vital to our charity that welcomes and houses families from across the country and around the world seeking the state of the art Proton Beam therapy to treat pediatric cancer and brain tumors,” said Joyce Duvall, Executive Director of Christopher’s Haven.
“CCBC started donating funds from this event four years ago when a dedicated group of big-hearted people met the children and their families being treated for cancer at Mass General Hospital. They have been amazing supporters of ours ever since,” she added.
