MILWAUKEE, Aug. 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin this week unveiled a series of three videos as part of a campaign intended to raise public awareness of the organization’s essential health care services and encourage women to take control of their health through annual, potentially life-saving health screenings.

The series of videos can be viewed online at www.plannedparenthoodsaveslives.com, a site that launched in April as part of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s campaign to highlight its health services and its mission to keep Wisconsin communities safe, healthy and strong.

The feature video in the series, “Cancer Screenings Save Lives,” shows how one decision – to go to that annual exam or to skip it – affects the path and outcome of the life of a young, vibrant woman who’s diagnosed with and treated for breast cancer. The video is a gripping reminder of how important annual health screenings are for every woman, regardless of age, income level or insurance status. The two parallel stories told simultaneously in just 2 1/2 minutes leave viewers with the powerful message: “The only thing worse than finding out you have cancer … is finding out too late.”

Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has been in the national spotlight recently since receiving significant funding cuts in the current state budget.

“Despite sustaining deep funding cuts, Planned Parenthood remains a reliable health care resource for women who need essential health care services,” said Linda Neff, VP of Development and Communication for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin. “We’re here and we continue to provide accurate information and professional, quality health care services to thousands of women each year.”

Ninety-seven percent of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin’s work involves providing essential, high-quality, affordable health care services to women, including life saving cancer screenings, birth control, prevention and treatment of STDs as well as sexual health education and health care referrals. In 2011, Planned Parenthood served nearly 80,000 patients with more than 36,000 breast and cervical screenings through a network of 27 health centers across Wisconsin.
