Nonprofit Hosts Senior Health Expo in Delaware

September 9, 2012

The CHEER agency in Delaware has announced plans for the CHEER Healthy Living Expo: Beach Day for seniors on Sept. 21 in Rehoboth Beach. In conjunction with this event, Massage School San Diego has released a healthy living tip sheet for seniors to encourage a health-conscious lifestyle all year long.

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 09, 2012

The CHEER agency recently announced plans to host a day-long healthy living event for seniors on Sept. 21. In conjunction with the CHEER event, massage therapy school locator and raw food proponent Massage School San Diego has released a healthy living tip sheet aimed specifically at seniors.

The Cape Gazette reported the CHEER agency, on Sept. 21, will host the CHEER Healthy Living Expo: Beach Day for seniors. The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will take place at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and Fire Hall. At the expo, seniors will be able to participate in blood sugar, cholesterol, dementia and blood pressure screenings. They can also get flu shots, take diabetes tests and have their balance tested. Resources will be on hand to provide information and discuss senior-related topics, such as Medicare, home healthcare, assisted living, estate planning, rehabilitation and more.

In conjunction with CHEER´s event, Massage School San Diego has released a healthy living tip sheet for seniors:

  • Eat a diet that´s high in fiber, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. As you age, your digestive slows down. Foods with fiber will help you digest better and allow you to feel more energetic and full.
  • Drink plenty of water. Dehydration happens much faster as an aging adult.
  • Even if it´s just a short walk around the block, get regular exercise. It will help you keep up your strength, stay focused and even fight off pain. Start slow when beginning a new exercise regimen, though. It´s important not to over-exert yourself.
  • Keep your mind active. Do a puzzle, crossword or read a book, or try out a new recipe on a regular basis. This helps keep your mind alert and agile.

The CHEER agency is a non-profit organization in Delaware for aging adults. The group focuses on providing health services to seniors that allow them to continue living on their own, despite any adverse health conditions. CHEER offers transportation services, Meals on Wheels, a mobile grocery store, senior housing, companionship programs, nutrition help and even housekeeping. They also have several activity centers located throughout Sussex County.

Rehoboth Beach is a small town on the Southeastern region of Delaware. Founded in 1873, Rehoboth Beach is a popular vacation destination, with populations swelling from 1,327 to more than 25,000 in the summertime.

Rehoboth Beach Convention Center and Fire Hall shares the same building as Rehoboth Beach City Hall and the Rehoboth Beach Police Department. It is located on the West side of the city.

In conjunction with CHEER´s upcoming senior health expo, Massage School San Diego has released a healthy living tip sheet designed to help seniors stay healthy all year round.
