The FRS Company Exposes Moms’ Dependence On Caffeinated Beverages

While moms focus on keeping their families healthy and strong, the majority fall short when it comes to fueling their own bodies. A national survey commissioned by FRS found that the number one obstacle moms face is a lack of energy, and to help them get through the day, most turn to beverages loaded with caffeine and sugar.
The survey, conducted by Wakefield Research, revealed several surprising insights:
- The number one obstacle moms face is a lack of energy (44%), more than housework (24%) and family schedules (12%) combined
- More than three in five (62%) mothers turn to coffee and other caffeinated beverages – instead of healthier alternatives – to fuel their busy days
- Nearly four in five moms rely on caffeine specifically for an energy boost
- Almost 25 percent of moms say they need four or more caffeinated drinks to get through a full day
According to experts, the stimulants in most traditional energy drinks do not provide energy. Rather, they use energy by producing a stress response in the body to create an illusion of increased endurance, and ultimately make the body more tired. Additionally, experts say the effects of combining caffeine and sugar, found in many energy drinks, can cause a crash in blood sugar levels and an imbalance in glucose levels.(1 )

The survey found that 86 percent of moms admit to committing at least one “mom foul.” Whether it’s turning on the TV to distract the kids (69%), “helping” a little too much with the kids’ homework (38%), or pressing the delete button on perfectly fine family photos because mom didn’t look her best (25%).
Friendly competition. While a majority of moms (91%) agree they would be the head coach if their family was a sports team, they still must defend their title. Nearly one in three moms (30%) view other parents as their biggest competition, and 24 percent view their own mothers as rivals. However, just 11 percent view their mother-in-laws as competitors.
Do as I say, not as I do. Mothers like to nag their kids about eating nutritious foods, but 41 percent say their children are the number one people to tempt them to indulge in unhealthy foods.

The FRS Survey was conducted by Wakefield Research among 1,000 nationally representative American mothers, ages 18 and older, with children ages 17 and under living in the home, between May 31(st) and June 7(th), 2012, using an email invitation and an online survey. Quotas have been set to ensure reliable and accurate representation of the U.S. population of mothers ages 18 and older.
Results of any sample are subject to sampling variation. The magnitude of the variation is measurable and is affected by the number of interviews and the level of the percentages expressing the results. For the interviews conducted in this particular survey, the chances are 95 in 100 that a survey result does not vary, plus or minus, by more than 3.1 percentage points from the result that would be obtained if interviews had been conducted with all persons in the universe represented by the sample.
