Southeast Anesthesiology Provides Advanced Pain Relief After Surgery
CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Southeast Anesthesiology Associates (SAC), a division of the national medical group American Anesthesiology, is earning extremely high satisfaction ratings from surgical patients who receive ON-Q C-bloc, an advanced treatment for post-operative pain that uses narcotics and provides relief up to ten times longer than conventional methods.
The ON-Q C-bloc treatment uses a balloon filled with a local anesthetic that is attached to a catheter and placed under the patient’s skin next to a nerve near the surgical area. Using a small pump, the catheter slowly and automatically infuses local anesthetic for post-operative pain relief.
Within 48 hours after their procedures, 96% of patients who receive a block or catheter ranked their pain control as excellent or very good. The 2012 results are based on patient satisfaction tracked in SAC’s perioperative quality system call Quantum Clinical Navigation System(TM).
“Traditionally, treating post-operative pain has relied on narcotics, which can cause nausea, exhaustion and other negative side effects that can hinder a patient’s recovery,” said Dr. John Camp Sr., Anesthesia Medical Director at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy. “ON-Q completely steers clear of these problems while providing other significant advantages. It is reliable, clinically less invasive, and delivers longer lasting and more consistent relief compared to intermittent forms of treatment, such as shots or pills.”
As a result, patients may leave the hospital sooner, experience shorter overall recovery periods and are able to return to normal lifestyle sooner. Reduced length-of-stays also help hospitals reduce overall costs of care.
“In many ways, ON-Q reflects the best that advanced medicine can offer: a less invasive procedure that delivers better patient outcomes, more cost-effectively,” Dr. Camp added. “Our patients appreciate having the treatment and the added safety and comfort that it provides. We’re proud to be able to offer the treatment and believe it only elevates Southeast Anesthesiology Consultant’s already high standard of care.”
