Acti-Kare Sponsors National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 10, 2012

This October, Acti-Kare in Frisco, Texas is proud to sponsor National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to promote regular mammograms and increase early detection of breast cancer. The company encourages its client to get involved in the many breast cancer awareness events throughout the community.

Frisco, TX (PRWEB) October 09, 2012

Acti-Kare Plano, a leading provider of responsive in-home care for seniors, recently announced that they are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month of October, the company is participating in several breast cancer awareness events throughout the Dallas metroplex and are educating consumers about the prevalence of breast cancer and methods for early detection.

Other than skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common kind of cancer in women. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in White, Black, Asian/Pacific Islander and American Indian/Alaska Native women.

With statistic such as these, Acti-Kare Plano recommends that women between the ages of 40 and 49 talk to their doctor about when to start getting mammograms and how often they are needed. Mammograms are a trusted method of early breast cancer detection, when treatment is the most successful. For women who are 50 or older, Acti-Kare recommends scheduling a mammogram as soon as possible. Women of all ages should talk to their doctor about their risk for breast cancer, especially if breast or ovarian cancer runs in their family.

Acti-Kare Plano encourages everyone to participate in the numerous local breast cancer awareness events that are being held throughout the Dallas area during the month of October. One of the most popular events is the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. There is also a mammogram event being held for uninsured Collin County residents. The Moncrief Cancer Institute of UT Southwestern is providing free breast screenings for uninsured Collin County residents on October 22, 2012.
