Coast2Coast Rx Card Reaches Third Anniversary in Santa Barbara County, Saving Residents More Than $3.7 Million
Unique program offers significant discounts on thousands of prescription drugs while serving as a source of revenue for County

The providers of the Coast2Coast Rx card and the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors announced today that the county is celebrating its third year of participation in the free discount prescription program–and the fact that it has saved residents more than $3,722,807 on prescription drug costs. The card launched in August 2009.
The discount card also carries the endorsement of the United Way of Santa Barbara County and has a distinct advantage–Coast2Coast Rx provides $1.25 to the county each time the card is used to fill a prescription, generating revenue for public programs and projects in Santa Barbara. “Using the Coast2Coast Rx card allows residents to enjoy the significant savings benefits while simultaneously generating revenue that can help their community, making this program a win-win,” stated Vice-Chairman of the Board of Supervisors Salud Carbajal.
Using the free Coast2Coast Rx prescription drug card gives users access to discounts of up to 75 percent on over 60,000 brand name and generic drugs, with a nationwide average of 60 percent. Without having to fill out enrollment paperwork, the same card provides discounts for important health services such as vision, dental and hearing services, diabetes supplies and even some pet prescriptions and veterinary care. There are no restrictions or qualifications to be eligible for the card–anyone may use it regardless of income, age or health status. While the program is aimed primarily at the uninsured, it can also be a significant cost-saver for the underinsured or those with high deductibles and in some cases can help offset the expense of the Medicare Part D “donut hole.”
To increase awareness of the program´s benefits, Coast2Coast Rx is reaching out to public departments and local nonprofit agencies to spread information to consumers. Organizations such as the United Way of Santa Barbara have partnered with Coast2Coast Rx to make the card more accessible for residents. Social service agencies and nonprofit organizations can request a free supply of cards to distribute to their constituents as a money-saving resource. Local business owners are also encouraged to make the card available to their employees to help supplement company-provided healthcare plans or to assist employees who do not qualify for coverage.
