Mountainside Drug Rehab Highlights New Research on Dangers of Binge Drinking
Binge drinking dangers highlighted.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 20, 2012
A study from the scientists at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) shows that binge-drinking causes marked brain damage.
The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, focused on two groups of rats, the first of which were given alcohol to drink daily. The second group was restricted to drinking three times per week, every other day. The group of rats, whose drinking was restricted to three times weekly, began drinking alcohol moderately. Eventually that group of rats became binge drinkers, consuming more alcohol during the same period of time. Cognitive studies were conducted on both groups of rats and those rats that had engaged in binge drinking were found to have problems very closely associated to those seen in chronic alcoholism.
“This study further reinforces the idea that binge drinking is an extremely dangerous practice, even on a short-term basis,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “The study also gives hope for treatment for alcohol dependency.”
