Residents ratify Collective Agreement
VANCOUVER, Nov. 1, 2012 /CNW/ – The Professional Association of
Residents of British Columbia (PAR-BC) is pleased to announce that its
membership has ratified a new Collective Agreement with the Health
Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC).
The vote was 78% in favor of ratification.
This new contract for 2010 – 2014 provides for concise language on
Occupational Health and Safety and includes contraceptives (oral,
injectable and IUD) in the benefits plan. Residents will receive a
modest wage increase in the last two years of the contract. The
greatest change is a move to a per-call stipend system rather than the
monthly allowance of previous contracts, which paid residents
regardless of the number of calls they performed. The new system will
be in effect July 1, 2013.
Congratulations to all who participated in the process to make this
agreement possible. The agreement produced is a balanced contract in
light of the difficult times. It acknowledges the economic climate
while providing for a positive safe training environment for residents
in British Columbia.
