Hi Europe/ Ni/ NuW 2012 Success Demonstrates That the Nutrition and Wellness Industry is in Good Health!

November 26, 2012

AMSTERDAM, November 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ –

More than 7.200 visitors met for a 360-degree perspective of the 1 trillion dollar
market

Not least the meteoric rise of Stevia proves that food ingredients with
multifunctional benefits are the biggest drivers of innovation in the food industry.
Consumers now more than ever actively seek out fortified foods, enriched with natural
ingredients or suitable ingredient replacements that they can trust. Today’s food needs to
be innovative and offer immediate solutions, additional health benefits or easy to open
packaging to minimise the impact of their often hectic or changing lifestyles. 441
exhibitors from 82 countries and 7200 visitors met last week at Hi Europe/Ni/NuW in
Frankfurt from 13 to 15 November for a 360-degree perspective of the future of this global
market with an estimated value of one trillion dollars.

As Europe’s leading event for the health, natural and nutritional community, last
week’s highly successful event demonstrates that the industry is thriving and thirsty for
the very latest ingredients, solutions, trends, innovations, education and networking
opportunities.

We are delighted to announce an impressive 10% increase in attendance. Compared to the
last event, HiE, NiE and NuW attracted a staggering 7,127* attendees (*pending ABC Audit)
and with packed aisles, busy seminar theatres, bustling exhibitor stands and full
conference rooms, the mood of the event and the industry was clearly upbeat.

“HiE is one of the most important nutrition + wellness platforms. It targets an
experienced group of visitors and the high quality of attendees enhances our business.
That’s why it’s an important part of our European Marketing strategy” Jens Bohm, Marketing
Manager, BENEO

Natasha Berrow, UBM’s Brand Director, commented, “last week’s event really did surpass
even our expectations! The positive response to the NuW branding and show floor
innovations provided the innovative environment that such an innovative industry
deserves.”

She continued “to achieve a double digit increase in attendance was always going to be
challenging and so we are absolutely delighted with the results. The record re-bookings
are further indication that exhibitors see Hi Europe/Ni/ NuW as the place to continue to
meet their customers and to secure new business leads. I’d like to express our
appreciation for the tremendous, ongoing support of all our customers.”

“The best of HiE is the quality of the event; really selective visitors with
purchasing power looking to continue or create new businesses.” Stephanie Parra, Service
Marketing, Plantex

The NuW Innovation Excellence Awards united industry thought leaders and provided the
opportunity to discover innovation as well as the upcoming market leading ingredients. The
much coveted award the “most innovative health ingredient” went to Tate & Lyle for their
new salt reduction ingredient Soda-Lo. The overall winner, Tate & Lyle commented ‘We are
proud that a jury of experts recognized both the relevance of SODA-LO(TM) Salt
Microspheres in today’s public health environment and the potential extraordinary value
that it delivers to food manufacturers,” said Andy Hoffman, Director of Health and
Wellness Innovation, Tate & Lyle.

Other event highlights included the 3 day seminar and industry insight programme.
Taking place at the heart of the exhibition not a spot was free throughout the programme
with over 1600 visitors gaining supplier updates and industry insight on a vast array of
topics including healthy aging, what’s new in natural, sustainable packaging, health claim
regulations and the “free from” market.

The modular conference programme attracted speakers from leading food and beverage
manufacturers, ingredients suppliers and research organisations, speakers included
managers from Nestle, DSM, The Coca-Cola Company and EFSA.

“DuPont was very excited to participate as a major sponsor. Following the acquisition
of Danisco in 2011 and with Solae now wholly part of DuPont, HIE 2012 was a great platform
to present our integrated offer and broad portfolio of nutritional ingredients and
solutions to the industry,” Sarah-Jane Jumppanen, Global Marketing Communications Leader,
DuPont Nutrition & Health.

“HiE 2012 has been a great success in terms of meeting clients and industry
colleagues. The amount of sales leads visiting our stand has far surpassed previous years
and we are already looking forward to HiE 2014 in Amsterdam.” Michael Hiron, Commercial
Manager – Lifestyle Ingredients, Volac International

Hi Europe/ Ni/ NuW’s big sister event, Food Ingredients Europe, is taking place at the
Messe Frankfurt in Germany on 19-21 November 2013. Early signs strongly indicate that it
will once again secure its position as the world’s leading food ingredients event
attracting over 25 000 food and beverages professionals from across the globe.
