Emotions in Motion 5K Run/Walk for Mental Health

Saturday Dec. 8(th) at Mission Bay Park – De Anza Cove

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Hundreds of runners and walkers, including suicide survivors and mental health advocates, are expected to gather to raise awareness for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention as they participate in the Emotions in Motion 5K Run/Walk for Mental Health. The event takes place Saturday, Dec 8, 2012 beginning at 9 a.m. (8 a.m. registration) at Mission Bay Park – De Anza Cove in San Diego, CA. Proceeds raised will be used in San Diego by SAVE – Suicide Awareness Voices of Education, a national nonprofit agency based in Bloomington, Minnesota, to educate the community on suicide prevention.

Sponsored by Lockheed Martin and Clear Channel’s 93.3, the event includes free resources from several local healthcare organizations for individuals, merchandise for sale, free activities for children, music, food and beverages. A special appearance by Lil Niqo is scheduled for that morning. Dr. Reidenberg, one of the nation’s leading experts in suicide prevention, will be on hand to speak at the event.

Individuals or teams may register online at www.save.org/events. Walkers may register in advance or the day of the event for $15. For runners, pre-registration can be done through SAVE.org for $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under if made before December 6th. After that, the registration fee is $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12. All runners receive a t-shirt as part of their registration.

Suicide is a national public health crisis that is the 10th leading cause of death in the California. On average 9 Californian’s of every age, race and area of the state die by suicide every day. SAVE works to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and serves as a resource to those touched by suicide.
