Gulfport, MS (PRWEB) November 30, 2012

Gastric Bypass or you may know it as the Roux-en-Y procedure is one of the most common surgical weight loss options available today. The procedure performed for over 30 years now, became more effective and safer with the evolution of technology itself.

Dr. Donald Balder, bariatric surgeon in Gulfport, MS in a recent interview talks about gastric bypass surgery as a highly effective option to treat morbid obesity, condition which became the largest epidemic in the state of Mississippi.

The television interview features a new bariatric patient of Dr. Balder´s who decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery after years of struggle with obesity related health conditions, dieting, losing weight and gaining it back right away. The patient weighed more then 300 pounds and she experienced high blood pressure and constant joint pain.

Dr. Balder says that even if these minimally invasive surgeries have their risks, sometimes it is a greater risk staying obese and living with dangerous weight related illnesses like diabetes, heart problems, sleep apnea and hypertension.

Gastric Bypass is not a quick fix. Dr. Balder put his patient prior to the surgery to diet and exercise for four months. After the surgery she will need to adopt a healthy lifestyle and maintain it permanently.

“The success of weight loss surgery is highly dependant on what we teach the patients and the patients´ long-term follow up” — says Dr. Balder.

After about eight weeks following the surgery Dr. Balder´s patient feels that this surgery has changed her life. She feels good, she stopped taking blood pressure medicines and she experiences no joint pain anymore.
