LeClairRyan Forms Compounding Pharmacy Investigation and Litigation Team
WASHINGTON, Dec. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — Responding to the needs of an industry facing increased pressures, the national law firm of LeClairRyan has announced the creation of a Compounding Pharmacy Investigation and Litigation team.
The firm’s newest team is strategically positioned to provide legal counsel and representation to compounding pharmacies across the nation at a time when these facilities experience closer scrutiny and heightened oversight by state pharmacy regulators and, potentially, the Food and Drug Administration.
“Specialty pharmacies face complex operating requirements as they strive to comply with federal regulations and individual states’ rules regarding pharmacy compounding,” explained team leader Michael F. Ruggio, a shareholder in LeClairRyan’s Washington, D.C. office. “Those pressures have been magnified in the wake of the recent situation involving a New England facility that we now represent.”
The Compounding Pharmacy Investigation and Litigation Team consists of five attorneys based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. and Boston offices. Joining Mr. Ruggio are Kevin G. Kenneally, a shareholder and Boston office leader; Nancy M. Reimer, a shareholder, also based in Boston; and associates Sarah C. Reimers and Morgan F. Robinson, both resident in the Washington office.
“Our attorneys have a depth of skill and experience representing a broad range of healthcare entities, as well as individual officers and employees of those companies, in a variety of matters involving investigations and litigation,” said Ruggio, a former federal prosecutor, who also chairs LeClairRyan’s Healthcare Industry team. “Our keen ability to apply the strategies we use in these matters allows us to achieve favorable results for our compounding clients as well. Our attorneys regularly advise our compounding pharmacy clients on a full spectrum of regulatory issues, including risk assessments, to avoid situations that might lead to government investigations or other litigation.”
LeClairRyan provides business counsel and client representation in corporate law and litigation. With offices in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington, D.C., the firm has approximately 350 attorneys representing a wide variety of clients throughout the nation.
