Olde Ipswich Tours, in collaboration with Caffe Graziani restaurant in Salem, MA, announce their second annual tour of Italy, to include Rome, Giovanni´s hometown of Piglio, and Tuscany. Drawing on the overwhelming success of this year´s tour, the 10-night 2013 tour will offer guests the opportunity to experience the true Italy, where there are no tourists and where the locals speak only Italian.
“The Caffe has such a loyal following, and over the years, Giovanni and Paula have had many customers say they would love to travel to Italy with Giovanni, to meet his family and see where he grew up,” says Vicki Parker, tour planner for Olde Ipswich Tours. “So last year, we collaborated so that we could make that dream a reality. The tour of Italy filled within a matter of weeks.”
The 2013 tour of Italy includes two days in Rome, during which guests enjoy private guided tours of the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and St. Peter´s Basilica; four days in Piglio, where guests are treated like family and also take private guided tours of Subiaco and Anagni; and then three days in Tuscany, where guests discover Florence with a private guide and also explore the Chianti wine region.
While these classic visits on any tour of Italy are sure to please, the real unique feature of this small group tour is the glimpse of authentic Italian life and culture to which guests are exposed. These special experiences include pasta-making demonstrations in Piglio; a visit to Giovanni´s cousin´s olive farm for an oil tasting, polenta-making demonstration and wonderful homemade lunch; and a wine-tasting lunch at a friend´s vineyard with DOCG Cesanese del Piglio wine.
“The group had such a wonderful time last year, and the highlight was truly the time spent in Piglio with Giovanni´s family,” says Parker. “It´s not often that Americans get to experience a foreign country in such a familial way. It´s definitely a unique and memorable way to tour.”
