EHR Doctors, Inc. Becomes Anchor Member Of eHealth Exchange

January 22, 2013

POMPANO BEACH, Fla., Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — EHR Doctors announced today that it is officially an anchor participant of the eHealth Exchange. The eHealth Exchange (“Exchange”) is a group of federal agencies and non-federal organizations that came together under a common mission and purpose to improve patient care, streamline disability benefit claims, and improve public health reporting through secure, trusted, and interoperable health information exchange.

Participating organizations mutually agree to support a common set of standards and specifications that enable the establishment of a secure, trusted, and interoperable connection among all participating Exchange organizations for the standardized flow of information, by:

  • Sending health information to other participating organizations
  • Finding and requesting copies of healthcare information from other participating organizations–where permitted by law and policy
  • Matching patients to their data without a national patient identifier
  • Subscribing to receive updates to health information

A national health information network is needed to support an effective healthcare system, said David Blumenthal, MD, MPP, former national coordinator of health IT, but “providing information is clearly a critical challenge.” eHealth Exchange intends to meet that challenge head on.

EHR Doctors partners with the Social Security in order to streamline disability benefit claims over the Exchange. The ability to automate the electronic release of information (eROI) operation saves health care facilities costs for charity and uncompensated care. “Providing health care systems the ability to lower their charity and uncompensated costs, while meeting components of meaningful use 2 creates a win-win scenario for health care systems,” said Gerard Reeder, President of EHR Doctors. As health care systems are looking to cut costs ahead of the transition from fee for service to managed care, this ability creates a real return on investment.
