The Center for Joint Care at Kishwaukee Community Hospital is celebrating two years of caring for patients in a state-of-art, customized program built to fulfill the needs of each hip replacement and knee replacement patient. To date, over 500 hip and knee procedures have been performed since the program´s inception in 2011, allowing these patients to overcome hip joint pain and knee joint pain.
Joint Program Coordinator, Dave Smith, is proud to report very high patient satisfaction scores and excellent outcomes, along with decreased hip and knee replacement recovery times. “Continued improvement is the goal of everyone in the Center for Joint Care,” said Smith. “We believe in educating patients on what to expect, starting physical therapy soon after surgery, and involving family members in our patients´ recovery.” Over 90% of joint care patients are discharged home without the need for a stay at an inpatient rehab facility.
Known as a premier destination center for joint care, patients have flown in from Maine, Florida, and California, and many who have driven in from all across the Midwest. The Center for Joint Care serves patients from DeKalb, Sycamore, Sandwich, Yorkville, and surrounding communities. Dozens of repeat patients have had both joints done on separate occasions. “Our program is based on the best, evidence-based practices,” said Rajeev Jain, MD, medical director of the Center for Joint Care. “Evidence shows that complications are reduced and outcomes maximized when a patient is well educated about the procedure and what to expect.”
