Med-Fit Doctor Earns Certification in Obesity Medicine
Dr. Angela Tran, head of Med-Fit Medical Weight Loss Clinic in Denver certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine
Denver, Colo. (PRWEB) February 07, 2013
Angela Tran, D.O., of Med-Fit Medical Weight Loss Clinic, has officially added obesity medicine to her list of certifications. Already board-certified in internal medicine, and an active member of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians, the new certification emphasizes the use of weight control as part of a person´s normal medical treatment.
Dr. Tran was one of only 191 physicians in the US who successfully completed this year´s exam. The exam tests physicians´ understanding of the treatment of obesity as well as its causes, including genetic, biologic, environmental, social, and behavioral factors.
“This will help me better serve my patients,” said Dr. Angela Tran. “In medicine, you can never know too much about a problem. And when a problem is as common, critical, and challenging as obesity, physicians have a duty to challenge it head-on. That´s why I left primary care to combat obesity here at Med-Fit.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than a quarter of US adults are obese nationwide. About 17% of children are considered to be obese. Colorado has the lowest rate of adult obesity, at 20.7%.
In 2008, it cost an estimated $147 billion to treat obesity-related health conditions, like heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some types of cancer and more. In addition, obese individuals are more likely to suffer surgical complications and more likely to suffer injury in car accidents.
The American Society of Bariatric Physicians recommends a combined approach to combatting obesity, including diet modification, exercise, behavioral changes, and more.
Med-Fit is a weight loss clinic dedicated to healthy principles for long-term patient success. This includes an emphasis on diet and exercise under the supervision of a physician and other specialists to ensure weight loss programs are effective, safe, and tailored to the individual needs of patients. It was founded in 2012 by Dr. Angela Tran.
