February 10, 2013

Single cancer survivors will find support for their unique needs from the new collaboration of Malecare Cancer Support and CancerMatch.com

Indianapolis, Indiana (PRWEB) February 10, 2013

Malecare Cancer Support and CancerMatch.com are proud to announce Facing Cancer Alone, a new program to help the one third of all cancer survivors who live without friends or family support.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to offer cancer support services single and living alone cancer survivor community. Our collaboration with the world´s first cancer survivor dating website, CancerMatch.com is groundbreaking in bringing together the joys of dating and romance with the life extending benefits of cancer survivor support groups,” announced Darryl Mitteldorf, LCSW, Executive Director of Malecare Cancer Support. “Single people battling cancer also have the added stress of navigating a medical system that is sometimes hostile to non-married persons,” said Mr. Mitteldorf.

Facing Cancer Alone will leverage all of the great services provided by CancerMatch.com with the free services provided by Malecare Cancer Support. Though Malecare is historically focused on male cancer survivorship, Facing Cancer Alone will be totally inclusive and supportive for men and women, gay and straight.

“Facing Cancer Alone will give myself and others living alone with cancer the opportunity to reach out, support, and network with other single cancer survivors,” said Joanne Lemer, a single woman diagnosed with breast cancer.

“We believe it is important that these individuals and their care givers have a safe place where they can gather to share concerns and receive support without having to justify or explain what it means to live alone in the world.

“Married cancer survivors simply don´t get our experience,” said Ms. Lemer.

“Facing Cancer Alone will allow members to focus on issues unique to single individuals, such as the challenges of living wills and next of kin notifications, maintaining an income and safe household, and simply having someone to hug,” said Mr. Mitteldorf.

“We’ve seen hundreds of single cancer survivors across the United States reach out to us for a program like Facing Cancer Alone….we are certain that Facing Cancer Alone and our partnership with CancerMatch.com will prove a vital source of support and hope to cancer survivors,” said Mr. Mitteldorf.
