Omega-3 Fish Oil Inhibits Growth of Breast Cancer Tumors by 30%
MIAMI, March 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ –
First-ever unequivocal evidence that long-term ingestion of omega-3 fatty acids may
reduce the risk of breast cancer
Omega-3 fish oil may inhibit the growth of breast cancer by 30%, according to a new
study published by Canada’s University of Guelph in the Journal of Nutritional
Researchers believe the study to be the first ever to offer unequivocal evidence that
omega-3 fatty acids, when taken consistently on a life-long basis, may reduce the risk of
breast cancer. In women, breast cancer is the most common form of this disease, as well as
the second-leading cause of deaths attributable to cancer.
Other studies spanning decades have confirmed that omega-3 fish oil can be
therapeutically beneficial in numerous women’s health issues, including menopause-related
weight gain and other symptoms.
Not all fish oil, however, is created equal. EPA and DHA must be present in optimal
quantity and concentration to achieve the best results. It is critical to realize that
there are many different forms of fish oil and omega-3-based supplements on the market.
When taking omega-3 to reduce breast cancer risk, control over quality is important since
fish oils contain high levels of other bioactive lipids which can exert their own, often
still poorly understood, potential actions on cancer development.
Currently, the nutritional supplement with the highest quantity and concentration of
both EPA and DHA is Megafort’s own Quadruple Strength Omegafort SCC. Unlike fish oils,
this top-of-the-line product offers 85% omega-3 concentration, four times the
concentration of standard fish oil, with more than 1000 mg of EPA/DHA and 1,200 total
omega-3s in each capsule.
