Award-Winning Video Series: Young Adult Cancer

April 1, 2013

In honor of National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week, the Nurse Oncology Education Program (NOEP) and the LIVESTRONG Foundation have re-released their free, award-winning video education series entitled At the Crossroads: Cancer in Ages 15-39 at http://www.noep.org. Nurses, no matter the field of practice, can impact adolescent and young adult cancer.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 01, 2013

Nearly 70,000 adolescent and young adults (AYAs) are diagnosed with cancer every year. Not only do AYAs represent the largest uninsured population in the nation, but they have seen little improvements in overall survival rates over the past 25 years.

To help all nurses provide better care, the Nurse Oncology Education Program and LIVESTRONG Foundation have re-released a video series on the unique physical, emotional, and practical needs of the AYA patient. The education was recognized by the Young Adult Alliance for advancing the National Cancer Institute´s Progress Review Group Recommendations to, in turn, advance the field of AYA oncology.

Nurses can earn continuing education at http://www.noep.org but anyone can view the series. One course reviewer wrote, “The information provided through the real life stories of these adolescents and young adults is very informative, not only for oncology nurses, but for ALL nurses. Regardless of the area of specialty, nurses are likely to see an AYA who has had cancer at some point during their nursing career. Anticipating the physical, emotional, and practical concerns of this population can assist the nurse in providing the best care possible.”

ABOUT NOEP: NOEP is a nonprofit project of the Texas Nurses Association/Foundation providing continuing education to nurses on cancer prevention, detection, treatment and survivorship.
