The Acadia Family Center Welcomes New Therapists

Acadia Family Center expands services to include marriage and family counseling and art therapy.

Therapists Hilary Chermak and Laurie Parker join the counseling team at Acadia Family Center this month. With the addition of the new clinicians, the Center is expanding its current services to include family and marriage counseling, trauma counseling, and art therapy as well as addictions counseling for individuals and affected others. “AFC wants to strengthen our communities, and we are confident that our new staff members will contribute to this mission,” says Christine Drabek, Acadia Family Center´s Executive Director.

The Center´s new marriage and family counselor Laurie Parker, LMFT, has worked with clients of all ages providing individual and family therapy for the past 19 years. She is a certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. EMDR is an effective therapy for trauma recovery. “Acadia Family Center´s commitment to supporting clients and their families who face the challenges of addiction is impressive,” she says. Laurie works with teens, individuals and families.

Hilary Chermak, MS ATR-BC-LPC, is the Center´s new art therapist. Originally from Wisconsin, Hilary has experience working with adults, teens and children. “I love working with people and enjoy the idea of allowing art to guide and heal,” she says. In addition to working one-on-one with clients, she plans to develop open studio opportunities in the community.

Acadia Family Center is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves the community as a resource for recovery and substance use prevention in Hancock and Washington Counties in Maine. Its services encompass substance use prevention and outpatient treatment, related mental health counseling, and community outreach education that are rooted in resilience and nurtured by compassion, collaboration and community.
