Parents, kids and educators to experience bike safety, wear helmets, ride safely to school
Scotts Valley, Calif. (PRWEB) April 26, 2013
Continuing a successful 24-year partnership, Bell Helmets and Safe Kids Worldwide will again collaborate on national bike safety programs this year, including activities for the second annual Bike to School Day on May 8, 2013. Safe Kids coalitions across the country will help facilitate approximately 150 events on Bike to School Day that bring together children, parents and educators to raise awareness about bike safety. National Bike to School Day programs for 2013 include national and local bike safety promotion and youth education, regional bicycling activities ranging from bike rodeos to rides to school, and the donation of Bell helmets to participating adults and children.
Bike to School Day events promote biking to school as a safe and fun method of transportation while highlighting important bike safety information, like wearing a helmet. Bike to School Day will be celebrated in hundreds of communities across the United States as part of National Bike Month. In 2012, the first National Bike to School Day reached 40,000 children and parents who gathered at 129 events across the country.
“Our Safe Kids Worldwide partnership has provided decades of results: Bell has helped provide head protection and bike safety education to millions of kids as a well-earned accomplishment,” said Azul Couzens, Director of Marketing for Bell Helmets. “Safe Kids continues to innovate its bike safety programs and in the second year of this Bike to School Day program we´re hoping to reach even more people, help them learn about bike safety, and protect them while riding.”
“Bell has been an awesome partner in our efforts to make sure more kids have access to helmets,” said Kate Carr, president and CEO of Safe Kids Worldwide. “Wearing a helmet makes a real difference. In fact, a helmet can reduce the risk of severe brain injuries by 88 percent, if worn properly. Bike to School Day is a time to encourage all parents and kids to have fun and be safe when riding bikes.”
Bell and Safe Kids are saving children
For over 24 years, Bell and Safe Kids Worldwide have been inspiring and enabling millions of youths and families through an extraordinary partnership that has helped save lives. Following Safe Kids´ founding in 1988, Bell became one of the first corporate sponsors of Safe Kids the following year and has since provided a mixture of corporate cash donations, product donations and sales programs at retailers to help instigate helmet purchases for children.
Bell supports Safe Kids´ bike safety programming in local communities where annual bike events have reached millions, promoting biking, the imperative of wearing a helmet and practicing bike safety. Together, Bell and Safe Kids have helped to pass laws that require children to wear helmets on bikes and other wheeled objects. Thanks to Bell´s special Safe Kids helmet discount program, more than 2.5 million helmets were distributed to children through the Safe Kids network of 600 national coalitions.
For 2013, Bell´s continued commitment to Safe Kids Worldwide includes a corporate cash donation, the donation of helmets for adults and children across the country, revenue sharing through a helmet discount program at national Bell retailers, and joint promotion and support for bike safety related topics and events.
