That’s a Wrap: iaedp Symposium Concludes Record-Breaking Year
PEKIN, Ill., April 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — It was a year was full of milestones for the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals Foundation (iaedp) as it concluded its 27(th) annual Symposium at the Las Vegas Westin Resort and Spa with record attendance. The iaedp Foundation also achieved record submissions for its third annual “Imagine Me Beyond What You See” body art competition, along with a new sponsor in Veritas Collaborative, and a successful introduction of pre-certification training courses.
“The Symposium was a tremendous success, with over 500 professionals from across the nation and around the world attending,” said iaedp managing director Bonnie Harken. “We are so pleased to have had some of the nation’s leading eating disorder professionals come out to educate and inspire. We are already looking forward to next year.”
Of the 500 professional attendees, 120 enrolled in the new pre-certification training courses. The program offered professionals new to the field or who do not specialize in eating disorders a comprehensive introduction to eating disorders and eating disorder training courses in a two-day, 12-hour track leading up to the Symposium.
The Symposium kicked off with a banquet honoring those who have contributed to the field and organization. Ron A. Thompson, PhD, FAED and Trattner Sherman, PhD, FAED were presented Honorary CEDS Awards for their groundbreaking work and contribution to the field of eating disorders treatment for their work with and research on athletes with eating disorders. The Spirit of iaedp Award, given to a member of iaedp for ten years or more who demonstrates consistent service and loyalty to iaedp’s mission, was presented to Sister Pat Broderick, MSW, CEDS.
Other awards included Member of the Year, given to Jonna Fries, PsyD, Christine Hartline Scholarship winner, Tiffany Jane Gentile and Richard Wilson PhD CEDS Scholarship winner Erin Marie Gillingham. Special Recognition Awards were given to iaedp Certification Director Julie Holland, MHS, CEDS; iaedp Immediate Past President (2011-2012) Mary Bellofatto, MA, LMHC, NCC, CEDS, TEP; and the iaedp Advisory Board.
The iaedp Foundation’s third annual “Imagine Me” body image mannequin art competition also set a record with thirteen submissions from around the world. The first place winner and recipient of the Professional’s Choice was “Can You See Me Now,” by Jen Foote of Canada. The mannequin was auctioned off and purchased for $500 by Wendy Oliver-Pyatt Centers in Miami, with proceeds benefiting the iaedp Foundation.
