BMA Affordable Assisted Living Community Wins State Wii Bowling Tournament

Residents of Heritage Woods of Charleston, a BMA Management affordable assisted living community in Charleston, Illinois, won the statewide 2013 Wii Bowling Tournament hosted by the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition.  The community serves seniors of all incomes, including those on Medicaid.

The Heritage Woodmen team of residents from Heritage Woods of Charleston, a BMA affordable assisted living community, won the 2013 Affordable Assisted Living Coalition´s statewide Wii Bowling Tournament.

The community, which is located 480 W. Polk in Charleston, Illinois, serves older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.

Heritage Woods residents John Hahn, Bill Pankey and Harry Waggle bowled for the Woodsmen in the Final Four competition that was held on May 14 and 15 at the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center in Decatur, Illinois.

The Woodsmen hoed down the Gardeners from Glenhaven Gardens of Alton in the Finals to take home the First Place Trophy and Medals.

The Gardeners entered the Finals as the tournament´s two-time defending champions.

The average per game per bowler score for the Woodmen in the Finals topped 200 pins.

This was the fourth year that the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition hosted the tournament.  Teams of residents from nearly 80 affordable assisted living communities in Illinois participated in the 2013 tournament.

The Woodsmen qualified for the Final Four by finishing as one of the top teams in its division after seven rounds of competition and winning three playoff rounds.  The Woodsmen advanced to the Finals by topping the Sassy Strikers from Glenwood of Greenville, Illinois.

In the battle for Third Place, the Oy Vey! team from Heritage Woods of Bolingbrook, a BMA affordable assisted living community in Will County, Illinois, bested the Sassy Strikers.

Based in Springfield, Illinois, the Affordable Assisted Living Coalition is a not-for-profit organization comprised of individuals and entities that develop and operate affordable assisted living communities that operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program.

The Supportive Living program is designed to provide an affordable residential alternative to a nursing home for older adults and adults with physical disabilities. The program emphasizes personal choice, dignity, privacy and individuality.

Nearly 140 Supportive Living communities are in operation in more than 70 Counties throughout the state.

Heritage Woods of Charleston opened for occupancy in October 2012.  The community houses 68 private studio and one-bedroom apartments.

Each of the apartments features a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning, and emergency alert system.

Certified nursing assistants are on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide personal assistance and help with medications. All three meals each day, housekeeping and laundry are among the included services.

“Residents also benefit from all of the opportunities that are available to socialize with friends and neighbors and the participate in social and recreational activities,” says Glenn Gentry, Administrator of Heritage Woods of Charleston.
