Joslin Diabetes Center Announces Its 2013 Diabetes Innovation Congress
2nd Annual Congress: October 3rd-5th at the Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington D.C.
BOSTON, June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Joslin Diabetes Center, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and the world’s preeminent diabetes care, research and education center, will convene hundreds of leaders and innovators in diabetes and obesity care and prevention at its 2(nd) Annual Diabetes Innovation Congress on October 3(rd)-5(th) at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, D.C.
A convening activity designed to accelerate adoption of innovations that work for all aspects of care and prevention of Diabetes, its complications, related conditions and comorbidities, Diabetes Innovation 2013 brings together all stakeholders – patient, payer, provider and purchaser, as well as academia, industry, technology and government. In 2012 for the inaugural event nearly 500 delegates representing all stakeholders attended the 2 1/2 days and 40+ keynotes, interactive panels, exhibits and other special sessions. In addition to the educational sessions, delegates will have an opportunity for a hands-on look at the latest technologies, innovations and advancements from leading-edge solutions providers that have committed to seeing the systems and processes for diabetes care and prevention improve.
“The word ‘innovation’ brings to mind ‘technology,’ and yes that’s a part of it,” said Julie A. Brown, Director of Professional Education and Executive Director of Diabetes Innovation at Joslin, “but we are examining much, much more. We need innovation in process, systems, workforce, nutrition, adherence, psychology, reimbursement, packaging – the list goes on. This event is designed to create new pathways forward for true systemic improvement.”
“The issues are so big, the challenges so daunting, and the outcome so important, we know it takes all stakeholders, pulling together,” Brown continued. Emphasizing this fact, Joslin has formed and will continue to form strong strategic advocacy, professional and media partnerships for the Diabetes Innovation effort. Partners and collaborators for 2013 include the American Diabetes Association, the Care Continuum Alliance, JAMA, Health 2.0, the Midwest and Northeast Business Groups on Health, Health Affairs, the College Diabetes Network, The Endocrine Society, StartUp Health and the National Association of Worksite Health Centers. The American Journal of Managed Care (www.ajmc.com) will once again work closely with Joslin to build support for Diabetes Innovation, and will publish and distribute the Diabetes Innovation 2013 post report and futures analysis.
With primary support from founding sponsor Sanofi, Diabetes Innovation 2013 sessions will include, among other varied and creative topics, a focus on: Creating a culture of health and healthier lifestyles, Innovative models of care, Diabetes prevention and management in the workplace, Mobile health care for diabetes, Diabetes friendly health insurance exchanges, and Value Based Purchasing for diabetes.
