Heritage Woods of Freeport, a BMA affordable assisted living community, will be opening for occupancy on Friday, June 28.
The community, which will be located at 1500 S. Forest Rd. in Freeport, Illinois, will serve older adults of all incomes, including those on Medicaid, who need some help to maintain their independence.
“We will be moving our Sales Office into the building on Tuesday, June 11, and begin moving residents into their apartments on June 28,” says Kelly Hillan, Administrator of Heritage Woods of Freeport. She previously served as the Executive Director of the Senior Resource Center in Freeport.
“What impresses me the most is seeing how we will be able to make such a big difference in the quality of people´s lives,” says Hillan.
More than 50% of the private apartments that will be available at Heritage Woods of Freeport already have been reserved.
“We have older adults from throughout Stephenson County who will be moving into the community as well as older adults from outside our area who are moving in to be close to family,” says Hillan.
Freeport, which is located in north central Illinois about 25 miles west of Rockford, serves as the county seat for Stephenson County.

The Heritage Woods community is being developed by BMA Management, Ltd., in partnership with the Stephenson County Nursing Center Foundation. BMA, which is the largest provider of assisted living in Illinois, will serve as the management company.
“We will provide older adults with a wonderful alternative to a nursing home or to struggling alone at home,” says Hillan. “Residents will benefit from living in a residential apartment-home setting and receiving personal assistance and help with medications.”
Private studio and one-bedroom apartments will be available. Each of the apartments will feature a kitchenette, spacious bathroom with shower and grab bars, individually-controlled heating and air conditioning, and an emergency alert system.
Certified nursing assistants, working under the direction of a licensed nurse, will be on-duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All three meals each day, housekeeping and laundry will be among the included services.
“Residents also will benefit from all of the opportunities that will be available to socialize with friends and neighbors and to participate in social activities and special programs on matter what the weather,” says Hillan.
Heritage Woods will be certified to operate through the Illinois Supportive Living program, which will enable to community to serve adults 65 and older of all financial means, including those on Medicaid.
BMA Management is based in Bradley, Illinois. The company operates 36 assisted living, senior living and memory care communities that together house nearly 3,400 homes and apartments.
