Cancer Support Helpline Expands to Include Live Web Chat
New live chat feature enhances The Cancer Support Community´s helpline services.
Washington, D.C (PRWEB) June 11, 2013
The Cancer Support Community, an international cancer nonprofit organization, announced today an expansion of its signature toll-free Cancer Support Helpline services to include an online live chat feature.
The live chat feature allows people seeking support during their cancer experience to reach a licensed mental health professional online in a text-based private chat room setting without making a phone call.
“We hope that this added capability of our Cancer Support Helpline will help us connect more people to professional support through mediums that are most convenient and helpful. The cancer journey can be difficult at times, and our helpline´s goal is to assist people as they navigate through this experience,” said Kim Thiboldeaux, President and CEO of the Cancer Support Community.
Since its launch in April 2012, the Cancer Support Helpline has served thousands of people affected by cancer. Staffed by licensed and trained call counselors, the helpline assists recently diagnosed patients, long-time survivors, caregivers and health care professionals with over-the-phone support, treatment decision counseling, distress screening and information on national and community resources.
The helpline´s new live chat option may be particularly ideal for people who have a question about the Cancer Support Community´s web resources, affiliate locations or other quick concerns and are not necessarily seeking counseling. Users may also begin their support session online and continue for more support over the phone.
The Cancer Support Helpline´s live chat is available during normal helpline hours, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern, and can be accessed here.
