Baylor Health Care System Adopts lifeIMAGE for Electronic Medical Image Sharing
One of the largest health systems in Texas goes live with lifeIMAGE to give its clinicians and medical staff access to imaging exams performed outside of its network.

Baylor Health Care System (BHCS), one of the largest not-for-profit hospital systems in Texas, recently selected lifeIMAGE and has completed an initial rollout of its electronic medical image sharing services. Throughout the next several months, these services will be deployed across the BHCS enterprise to give clinicians and medical staff access to imaging studies performed outside of its network.
Clinical, informatics, IT, Access Services and marketing users at Baylor University Medical Center, The Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, and Baylor All Saints Medical Center began using lifeIMAGE in May. Other BHCS sites will join throughout the summer and fall.
“Baylor is a forward-looking health system with a reputation for innovation in health information management, serving broad physician and patient populations,” said Hamid Tabatabaie, founder and CEO of lifeIMAGE. “We are proud to play our role in providing Baylor’s renowned specialists with more efficient access to patients’ imaging histories, at the point of care.”
With lifeIMAGE, physicians on Baylor’s medical staffs can view outside studies as easily as those performed at a Baylor facility. Ingestion of outside exams is decentralized to clinics and physicians’ offices. Once loaded into lifeIMAGE, studies and reports can be shared with other users on the network. When requested, an automated process makes it simple for physicians to import studies into Baylor’s permanent PACS, after which they are available in Baylor’s electronic health record (EHR).
The BHCS network of more than 300 access points includes 30 owned/operated/ ventured/affiliated hospitals; joint ventured ambulatory surgical centers; satellite outpatient locations; senior centers and more than 190 HealthTexas Provider Network physician clinics.
lifeIMAGE provides a broad set of solutions for universal e-sharing of diagnostic imaging information. These products securely connect hospitals, radiology groups and physicians to their patients everywhere and are currently deployed at many of the nation’s leading healthcare institutions and academic medical centers. The goal of the lifeIMAGE platform, recently featured in The Wall Street Journal, is to help avoid duplicate exams and eliminate unnecessary patient exposure to excessive radiation.
