2013 Arthritis Walk® To Raise More Than $10 Million
Over 50,000 Participants Join Together to Fight Nation’s Leading Cause of Disability
ATLANTA, July 9, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — The Arthritis Foundation announced today that the nationwide 2013 Arthritis Walk is projected to raise more than $10 million in hopes of finding a cure and ending arthritis pain for the 50 million people who suffer from arthritis. The annual event takes places in 137 cities across the country through November.
“We are overwhelmed by the incredible turnout this year and so appreciative of all of our sponsors and teams who came together to support such an important cause,” said Arthritis Foundation President and CEO, Dr. John H. Klippel. “The funds raised through Arthritis Walk help support vital Arthritis Foundation research and programs designed to improve the quality of life and help find a cure for people living with arthritis.”
Arthritis Walk unites communities across the country to raise funds to find a cure and end arthritis, a chronic disease that affects 50 million adults and 300,000 children, or approximately 22 percent of the U.S. population. By 2030, an estimated 67 million Americans will have arthritis, unless the trend is reversed.
Many fundraising teams have achieved tremendous growth this year, including Alpha Omicron Pi’s alumnae and collegiate chapters that are nearing the $50,000 mark. For a list of the remaining Arthritis Walk events taking place this fall and to register, visit www.arthritiswalk.org.
Arthritis Walk is sponsored nationally by National Presenting Sponsor, Amgen-Pfizer, as well as corporate sponsors Massage Envy and Zimmer, with additional media sponsorship from Arthritis Today magazine.
“Amgen and Pfizer is proud to be a long-time supporter of the Arthritis Foundation and its mission to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis,” said Vanessa Broadhurst, vice president and general manager of Cardiovascular and Inflammation at Amgen. “Our goal in partnering on the Arthritis Walk is to raise awareness of the nation’s leading cause of disability and motivate people with rheumatoid arthritis to educate themselves and take control of their health.”
