A recent study has indicated that taking statins such as Lipitor may increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The recent research is described in an article published in September 2012 in the American Heart Association Cardiology Patient Page by Drs. Ravi Shah and Allison Goldfine entitled “Statins and Risk of New-Onset Diabetes Mellitus.”
According to this article, statins such as Lipitor have been found to increase the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes in patients who take them. Drs. Shah and Goldfine write that “the associations between diabetes mellitus and statin use have raised concerns over the widespread use of statin medications in patients at lower risk for cardiovascular disease.” The concern that they raise, the article says, is that patients who take statins may be doing themselves more harm than good if they take them while their risk of developing cardiovascular complications is not high. While Shah and Goldfine accept that statins are necessary for many patients, in the article they raise concerns about their overuse in certain patients.
A new Canadian study corroborates these findings. The study is described in a WebMD article by Margaret Farley Steele entitled “Could Statins Raise Diabetes Risk” that was published on May 23, 2013. According to this article, a study of about 500,000 Ontario residents found that while the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes were low in patients taking statins, Lipitor raised it by 22 percent. The article also identifies other statins as having the potential to raise the risk of developing diabetes, and it says that Crestor raises the diabetes risk by 18 percent and Zocor raises the risk by 10 percent.
As evidence that statins such as Lipitor, Crestor, and Zocor may not be for everyone becomes clearer, http://www.shoppharmacycounter.com is offering a summer sale of PhenObestin 37.5 – world’s best nonprescription phentermine alternative.
