Henry Ford Health System Ranked in 25 Medical Specialties in “Best Hospitals”
DETROIT, July 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Henry Ford Health System hospitals were ranked nationally and regionally in 25 medical specialties by U.S. News and World Report’s annual Best Hospital survey.
The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in its 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.
Among the four hospitals in the Henry Ford Health System, the specialties ranked as high-performing are
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery
- Diabetes & Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology & GI Surgery
- Neurology & Neurosurgery
“A hospital that emerges from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of,” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News Health Rankings Editor. “Only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for their high performance as among their region’s best.
Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital had the largest number (10) of specialties ranked. In addition, the hospital’s Neurology & Neurosurgery programs was ranked 43th in the nation.
Other hospitals in the health system that had medical specialties ranked included Henry Ford Wyandotte, Henry Ford Macomb and Henry Ford West Bloomfield.
U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.
