AAFPRS Sees Surge in Rhino-Popularity

Study Finds Rhinoplasty Number One Most Popular Facial Plastic Surgery

Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 22, 2013

Edging out the competition for the third year in a row, rhinoplasty held onto its title as the “#1 most popular” facial plastic surgery procedure in 2012, according to a recent survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS).

Found to be the most popular surgical procedure for both men and women under 35, as well as the most in-demand facial plastic surgery among men, rhinoplasty is experiencing a recent resurgence in interest.

So why the uptick in rhino-popularity?

“Your nose is one of the first things people see when they look at your face, and it is very important to overall facial balance,” according to Robert M. Kellman, MD, President of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. “A well-done rhinoplasty can subtly enhance your features and restore facial harmony.”

Every year, 500,000 people seek consultation to enhance the appearance of their nose. This growing quest to modify and perfect the nose can be attributed to an overall dissatisfaction with its natural shape, changes with age, breathing concerns, injuries and corrective procedures. Even Facebook is a factor, with rhinoplasty being the number one requested procedure as a result of social media influence.

Common concerns people have about their noses include:

  •     Too long
  •     Crooked or twisted
  •     Too big
  •     Profile out of balance
  •     Thick tipped

Reasons for rhinoplasty vary by age and by gender, with men most often seeking hump reduction, while women tend to look for tip refinement. It may come as no surprise that Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and George Clooney top the list of most requested male noses, whereas women covet the noses of Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman and Kate Middleton.

No matter the motivation, make sure to always trust your face to a facial plastic surgeon. To ensure the best results from rhinoplasty, you should select a board-certified surgeon who specializes in plastic surgery of the face, head and neck.
